Last September 18, 2017 at Ibarra’s Garden, the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority was formally introduced to the ladies of the UP College of Medicine Class of 2022 in the annual InPhinite Possibilities. The event was hosted by Dr. Angeli Victoria Gervasio de Jesus (Φ2011B, Class 2016) and Gabrielle Pagdilao Flores (Φ2017, Class 2021).

As dinner was served,  Ф2017—PHIreflies—performed musical numbers to entertain the guests. The PHIreflies sang covers of Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield and How Far I’ll Go from the movie Moana. They also performed the traditional speech choir piece centering on the diversity and inclusiveness of the sorority.

After dinner, Sister Prior Ana Beatrice de Vera Constantino, Φ2016 Class 2020 welcomed the sisses and the ladies of Class 2022. This was followed by a series of talks from esteemed alumnae sisses on the four core values—Excellence, Leadership, Service, and Sisterhood.

Dr. Geraldine Tong Zamora-Racaza, Φ2000B Class 2005 spoke of excellence, particularly that of the academic sense. She recalled being filled with pride not from standing out on her own, but rather in excelling alongside her outstanding sisses.

Dr. Esther Alinsunurin Saguil, Φ1986 Class 1991 highlighted how the value of leadership is translated in the various facets of one’s life, inspiring one to take the initiative to lead wherever she may be.

Dr. Florence Volante Tienzo, Φ1985 Class 1990 shared her experiences in service within and outside the borders of the hospital. She emphasized that through the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority, she was given more opportunities to serve the underserved.

Dr. Julianne Francesca Flores Reyes, Φ2009 Class 2014 amusingly narrated her story of finding sisterhood in medical school. She recounted that her journey to attaining an M.D. was not defined by the stress of academics or work, but rather by the fond memories she shared with her sisses.

Superior Sister Exemplar Natasha Bernadine Guytingco Abela, Φ2013  Class 2018 gave the closing remarks to conclude the evening.

True to its title, the inPhinite possibilities in the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority were presented that night. As such, the ladies of Class 2022 have surely been evoked to take a chance, make a choice, and embrace the change.
