Caroling Christmas time brings about the spirit of generosity and good cheer in everyone. The Phi Lambda Delta Sorority, together with the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity spreads the spirit of Christmas in the homes of Alumni brods and sisses through caroling. This seasonal event is also a wonderful oppurtunity for the alumni and the resident brods and sisses to get to know each other. Truly, there is no greater celebration of Christmas than through songs in chorus, good food and great stories amidst the people you love.

| Pedia Storytelling and Book Donation
Various studies have shown that reading to and reaching out to children of various ages helps stimulate their cognitive development. The Phi Lambda Delta Sorority therefore aims to help ease the burden of the children confined in the PGH Pediatric Wards and Cancer Institute through an interactive story-telling and book donation event.

| Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Donation
In recognition of the debt we owe to our patients which have taught us over the years, the sorority has established the VP (Ventriculoperitoneal) SHUNTS PROJECT. VP shunting is a surgical procedure done to relieve increased pressure inside the skull due to excess cerebrospinal fluid on the brain seen in patients with hydrocephalus. Hundreds of Filipino children are afflicted with hydrocephaly, most of which cannot afford treatment (P20,000 for the VP Shunt alone). Through this project, we aim to provide VP shunts to some of the indigent patients in the Pediatric and Neurosurgery wards in PGH.
Eligible patients are those either admitted in the Charity wards of the Department of Pediatrics or Neurosurgery of the Philippine General Hospital, below 19 years of age, and withouth the current financial capacity to afford the said operation. The patient or his or her family or physician should submit a copy of the patient’s clinical abstract, duly signed, as well as a copy of certification from the Medical Social Service of the family’s financial capacity. At present, one VP shunt unit alone would cost approximately P20,000, and a lot of patients in PGH cannot afford such a device. Added to this would be the cost of the actual operation for the VP shunt to be installed into the patient. Through the generosity of various sponsors, we were able to donate four VP shunts last February and another one last April 2011.

The Phi Lambda Delta Sorority, in its commitment to service and nation-building, gives focus to the nation’s future through Kids Day Out. In this activity, members of the Sorority take time off from hospital duty to treat children from indigent communities to a day filled with education and fun. It is meant to provide for them an alternative learning experience and to foster camaraderie among the children and the sisses. Making the world their classroom, the Phi sisses share their advocacy of service and excellence to the kids of Baseco through this extraordinary experience.
