Anniversary Mass and Dinner
by Rae Ciro, Phi '11B
The Phi Lambda Delta’s anniversary mass was held last November 18, 2011 at the Philippine General Hospital Chapel. Some resident and alumnae sisses actively took part in the mass as the UP Medicine Choir beautifully sang songs of praise. It was a solemn mass celebrated with thanksgiving for the numerous meaningful and successful activities of the sorority in the past 42 years.
After the mass ended, the sisses were ushered to the dining area beside PagKalMa Park. Tables were set-up right outside PagKalMa Park, where sisses gathered and watched audio-visual presentations of the Phi month activities. Bea Gulmatico (Phi ’10) and Nicole Teresa Lukban (Phi ‘11A) served as the masters of ceremony during dinner. The opening remarks was given by Vice Superior Sister Exemplar, Alexis Paula Ibanez (Phi ’08), followed by an acknowledgement of alumnae sisses by the Sister Amica Aeterna, Maria Carmina Santiago (Phi ’09). After which, Alexis Ibanez briefly discussed the Phi month activities which were done in the past and presented the activities in store for the sorority in the coming weeks.
Sisses enjoyed the delectable meal served while sharing stories with each other. When everyone has had their fill, Dr. Louella Perez Aquino-Villar (Phi ’97) gave an inspirational speech on how proud she is to be a Phi. She also reminded the younger sisses, especially the newest batches, to treasure times of “toxicity,” especially work sessions and preparations for events since these are the moments which will help instill discipline and patience. As every Phi knows, great things are acquired through hard work.
The newest Phi batches were also introduced by their respective Sister Priors; members of Phi Batch 2011A (Phireworks) were presented by Christina Elise Jara (Phi ’08) while Julianne Francesca Reyes (Phi ’09) presented the members of Phi Batch 2011B (Phierce). To conclude the dinner, Superior Sister Exemplar, Dr. Josephine Anne Lucero (Phi ’07) gave the closing remarks. After the closing remarks, sisses stayed for picture-taking in PagKalMa, marking the end of yet another successful Phi month activity.
